iShowcase June 8th 5:00 - 7:30

All students will be presenting work at iShowcase on June 8th. This is an opportunity for you to shine and show what you have learned to your parents and our community. The 6th and 7th grade students will be presenting their Genius Hour work from 5:15 to 6:00 and the 8th grade students will be presenting their Best Works Portfolio from 6:20 to 7:30. Below are links to help you create your presentation for the night! Use this week to get started. You will have some on additional week of school time right before iShowcase so get as much done as you can right now. Good luck and be ready to share what you have by Friday.

This online science competition is open to students between the ages of 13 and 18 from anywhere in the world, working alone or in teams. During the challenge teams of four students will have 2 hours at the festival to design and construct a fun, eco-friendly outfit from only recyclable materials! Theme of the challenge will change with each event. You may create an entire ensemble or a single garment. Creativity, resourcefulness, teamwork and originality are highly encouraged.
Teach team will bring 2 – 30 gallon bags of clean recyclable materials to contribute to a collective pile from which you will be able to choose materials for your garment(s). You will also be provided a base kit (listed below) to Your team will then present your garment to the review panel at our fashion show at the festival. Judges will ask questions of the designers and evaluate your entry based on a rubric. (You may want to try on own a few times following the rules and the rubric and then enter one of the later dates!)

Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) is a K-12 student video competition and festival held by the San Diego County Office of Education. All iVIE nominated videos are shown on ITV Cable 16 in a series called "The Best of iVIE" and are also available on Time Warner's On Demand channel. North Coastal Prevention Coalition annual 420 Remix PSA Contest

The purpose of the contest is to engage youth in developing messages for their peers to increase youth perception of harm from marijuana use, and decrease marijuana use by youth. The contest is open county-wide to middle and high school students. Groups and individuals may enter. This year NCPC will fund three cash prizes: 1st place - $500, 2nd place - $250 and 3rd place - $100. There are three topics to pick from:
· The negative impact of youth marijuana use on physical or emotional health.
· The negative impact of youth marijuana use on achieving your goals.
· The negative impact of marijuana legalization on youth marijuana use.

San Diego State Student Art Contest - Due 5/7/16
What: To celebrate the creativity of K – 12 students in San Diego County, and to encourage students, teachers, and parents to explore modern and contemporary art together. Schools will be invited to submit artworks created by students related to the theme: “Education For All”

Spring Competition: May 7, 2016

Where: Competition awards ceremony will take place at San Diego State University’s Conrad Prebys Student Union in Montezuma Hall.
Prizes
  • 1st place overall winners will receive a Gold Medal and $100
  • 2nd place winners will receive a Silver Medal and $75.00
  • 3rd place winners will receive a Bronze Medal and $50.00
